Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation Program is a curriculum designed to foster self-regulation and emotional control in children with various diagnoses and deficits.

Feelings are complicated. They come in different sizes, intensities, and levels that are unique within our brains and bodies. To make them easier to talk about, think about, and regulate, The Zones of Regulation organizes our feelings, states of alertness, and energy levels into four colored Zones – Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red.

The Zones of Regulation Program is appropriate for children aged 5 years and older. Children of all abilities use this program successfully at Primrose!

Using this program, we teach children how to identify their emotions (and the emotions of others), communicate emotions, and regulate their emotional state based on the setting and expectations. We have even had some parents learn to love this program and develop their own set of regulation tools!
